Machel Montano Featured On Wavin’ Flag Remix

With the immense success of K’naan’s song “Waving Flag”, it was only right for it to be used as a theme song for the FIFA World Cup. Thanks to award wining remix king DJ Power and co-producer Watts, an electro style club remix featuring International Soca star Machel Montano has been crafted to the number one track in 11 countries worldwide. The new remix brings a high energy club feel to the track and has already been added by many radio stations across the globe.

The great arrangement courtesy of Power, Watts, DJ Knote and Ian Lee along with the live percussion by Tribal Rhythm Nation add amazing flavor along with the new lyrics added by Knaan and Machel Montano. “I was approached to do the remix and I said yes because the concept of the song was very close to what we are about in Trinidad. It was organized by Angel Magic (Jonathan Mack) who is a promoter / booking agent / DJ out of California.”states Machel in a recent interview with Trinidad Express. “Me and Watts wanted to increase the energy of the original track and once it was done, Machel was the perfect fit with Knaan”, says co-producer DJ Power who arranged the track while on tour in Australia. Staying busy the remix producer has also crafted a new reggae remix to the track with Kornerstone Productions./

DJ Power is known as “The Soul Controller” or “Remix King” for his award winning mix cds (Justo’s Mixtape award N.Y.) and his chart topping remixes such as his work on the Platinum selling Mims “This is Why I’m Hot” remix ft. Junior Reid and Baby Cham. His radio show “Outta Control Radio” (http://www.outtacontrolradio.com) with host Mad Linx (BET) reaches millions of listeners worldwide and is globally syndicated through Radio Express Inc. in California. Constantly touring the club circuit this summer he is scheduled to dj afterparties for dates on the Black Eyed Peas tour as well as new remix and mixtape releases.

Three For Skinny

St. Vincent 2010 Soca King

Skinny Fabolous

Skinny Fabulous came fully charged with gringos, dancing bunnies, charging station and a performance that led to him successfully defending his Vincy Soca Monarch title on Sunday night.

Emerging from under the stage draped in a white coat, he sent the crowd at Victoria Park, Kingstown into a frenzy with his wildly popular Charge Up (Duracell), and kept 15 contenders at bay to make this his hat trick win.

“Three feels good,” said the ecstatic artist. “Thanks to my entire team who put up every year with my eccentric scripts and last minute changes.”

After going into his onstage charging station and calling from the crowd to charge him up, he ended off his performance as an energy source with jets of sparks shooting from his body as he exited the stage.

The official Vincy Soca Monarch 2010 results:

  1. Skinny Fabulous – Charge Up (Duracell)
  2. Fireman Hooper – Soca Battlefield
  3. Maddzart – D King Road
  4. Problem Child – Delinquents

In spite of his recent win, the Vincentian soca king already has two new tracks for release; Party Again featuring Danielle Viera and a collaboration with Fadda Fox called Hot Steppa.

Soca Superstar Rupee Releases Two Hot Singles for the Crop Over Season

NEW YORK, NY– Having recently captured the theme song for the latest season of the popular HGTV series, Design Star, with the song “Flaunt It”, Barbadian soca superstar and Atlantic Records recording artist, Rupee, continues to make incredible moves for the genre.

“It’s not easy trying to stay committed to a genre of music that so much of the world has yet to experience”, reveals Rupee, who brought massive attention to the southern Caribbean namesake with his massive crossover hit, “Tempted to Touch“. “Sometimes I feel as though I could cheat on soca and give in to the lure of going straight pop, R&B or even alternative; I dabble in all of these styles but soca is what made me”.

Rupee thus stays true to his love for the genre with two new releases for this year’s Barbados Crop Over season, both of which have the potential to help him on his mission to reach the worldwide masses. “Traveling the world and seeing how our music uplifts people, seeing a reflection of the love I get in the West Indies transcend to different cultures and races, is what keeps me faithful and fuels my mission to make the world fully embrace soca”.

The first single, “All Night Long”, is a romantic, sexy tune that sees Rupee in a comfortable place – composing songs for the ladies.  This mid-tempo vibe, with that familiar “Tempted To Touch” flavor, is a sure fire tune for the dance floors. It was produced by Victorious, an upcoming Miami DJ and producer. Also, in an effort to further uplift and promote younger talent, Rupee collaborated with rising songwriter and performer, Young D, to co-write the song.

“I get hundreds of tracks and songs from producers, writers and performers regularly but not many stand out,” Rupee divulges. “Then DJ Barrie Hype from Miami sent me this riddim and I felt it immediately. One of my touring DJs, Alvin Toppin ‘the Soca Superman,’ put me onto Young D in an effort to give him a chance, and I did. The stuff he writes is definitely in my zone and he says I am one of his biggest influences for his music”.

The second track, “Everybody”, is a guaranteed party-starter and will definitely ignite the crowd. On this track, Rupee revisits the classic WCK tune, “Balance Batty”.

“I was blessed to have once had Cornell ‘Fingers’ Phillip in my band and he was the original producer of ‘Balance Batty’ and also leader of the band, WCK”, explains Rupee. “I linked up with him to recreate the track with a fresher twist. Then to further bless the track, we secured the services of mega soca producer/DJ and multiple Road March winner, Peter ‘No Stoppin’ Coppin. Peter injected a power soca vibe of energy into the song. It’s a crazy combination of Bouyon and power soca. I think this will definitely be a winner in the clubs and on the road”.
